"Monkey" Matthew Perlowski

After being a patron to the Highland games for many years, I was inspired to become an athlete in 2016. Since then, I’ve ranked in the top ten in California for Amateur Class C in 2018 (7^th) and 2019 (2^nd); and for Amateur Class B in 2022 (6^th), 2023 (8^th), 2024 (5^th), and 2025 (3^rd). From 2020-2024 I held the role of equipment manager and official judge as a Member-at-Large for the SAAA board. This experience allowed me to refine my skills as a caber maker and official judge trainer. Furthermore, I am actively involved in the Highland community as leader of the practice group “The Seaside Highland Throwers” based out of Ventura, CA. I have flipped cabers in four countries (including the opening games in Gourock, Scotland), four states, and dozens of Highland Games over the last decade. My passion for my Highland community is unwavering, and I wholeheartedly encourage everyone to try it!
